SPOILER ALERT if you have not finished the novel. If you have, what did you think of the final statement of the book? "There is no District Twelve". Upon first reading, I just thought, 'okay, Gale means District 12 was destroyed.' But then, I thought 'why would Suzanne Collins not just have him say that District 12 was destroyed, wiped out, etc.' "There is no District 12" seems to suggest something more... Likely, I'm reading too much into a simple statement. Did anyone else question the meaning of that sentence?
Alyssa, why did you delete your comment? I feel the exact same way about "There is no District Twelve". I had to read the final chapter for the second time to make sure I took it all in. How many people knew? Where are Prim and her mom? I cannot wait until the meeting on Wednesday to hear all the comments. This book was much more graphic as well. I see that she has replaced most of the romance garbage in part one with violence in part two. I was heartbroken about Cinna.
Comment was deleted because it made no sense, and I only realized it AFTER it was posted. Typical. I didn't quite catch that hidden meaning at the end, but now that I think about it, you're both so right! I'm hoping that Prim and Katniss' mom are safe, but something tells me we're in for a big surprise. It's probably going to be some huge, dramatic plot twist. But that's so Suzanne Collins. I really enjoyed this book, too, though I can't lie, I'm a total romantic and I loved Peeta and Katniss in the first book, with their kissy-cuddly cuteness. However, this is a nice, refreshing, disgustingly graphic novel and I liked it a lot! Peeta's also growing on me a lot more, and I'm not so fussy on Gale, just because he's so wounded. Get over it! Peeta and Katniss will get together, because she's going to realize she actually does love him and she needs to move on from Gale. Did anyone else freak out when the President went to visit Katniss? I pictured him as a frightening character, and his persistant death threats only backed my opinion on that. And I agree, JRock! The murder of Cinna was out of hand! Totally unnecessary, and my jaw actually fell open. I want to reread this book!
Cinna will be back, perhaps with a few shiners, busted lips, etc, but alive. Anyone remember that scene in Armageddon where Bruce Willis decides to stay behind and sacrifices his life for Ben Affleck and the rest of the crowd on that spaceship; they're separated by glass as Ben goes up in an elevator or something, bawling like a little girl, crying out that he loves Bruce. Couldn't help but think of that as I read that scene. Anyways, I digress. Cinna will be back... more glamorous than ever, I'm sure.
So, did he actually die? Or can the Capitol just fix him right up and send him on his way? I mean, he didn't do anything! He didn't deserve to be knocked around like that. The Capitol makes me sick; the Games are bad enough, why do they need to torture people like that? It makes me riled up.
They saw the burning dress that Cinna designed (which revealed Katniss as a mockingjay) as a huge slap in the face, as it 'added fire' to the whole rebellion movement.
